Mushashi’s post prompted me to post this video. It’s from yesterday. I watched the smoke line come south from Fort Collins during the afternoon. By late afternoon, it impressed me enough to video it. I’m not used to this stuff after living in
the Midwest.
I had to turn on the lights, it got that dark. It was a scene from Mars. I gave up and retreated into the house after this video. (excuse the music, I usually have the stereo cranked and it is).
yeah, I know California is so much worse in terms of burning and air quality. I can’t imagine what California is like when it was this bad here just from one fire.

Yeah, the fires here are on their way out but the air will continue to be bad for a while yet.

I left the house Friday evening and during the drive, and could see the huge smoke plume coming in from the northwest. It was crazy to see, it nearly looked like a volcano the way the smoke was rising!

We aren’t really used to this either. I mean, we’ve had some bad fires but usually the air quality improves faster or it’s coming from farther away ( like Arizona). I haven’t run or biked in a month or so either and it’s mentally starting to wear on me, but it’s not worth it to go out in this. Though I suspect things are nicer farther west but that’s where all the people went this weekend too!
Hopefully the snow helps.

Went for a run and choked out on the smoke here in Washington.

Im in far western colorado and the air had finally cleared out from the Pine Gulch fire and then i woke up yesterday to an insane amount of smoke from the fires in CA. The sun was blood red and ash fell from the sky.
Totally normal climate we have here.

As a gettingoldercarguy, you probably shouldn’t be running in that! ;) I shouldn’t even
have been working in the shop in that.

“Totally normal climate we have here.”
Indeed

lol, no clue if you are being sarcastic or not. Given the demographics of ppl on this website its a 50/50 coin toss.

Sorry. I suspected what I wrote wasn’t going to be
clear over the internet. I should’ve added the /s tag.
I’d say this site leans
83.2
% left/ 16.8
% right. (
numbers are
too subtle humor
). Based on the bitching from conservatives about how left this site is. I don’t see as many complaints from the left.

Ah, thank you. Honestly, i think oppo leans much more conservative than the front page. This is purely anecdata of course.
Regardless, as a fellow human and Coloradoan, i am wishing you luck. Right now here on the Western Slope its 48 degrees and pouring rain. Thank god..

I like “anecdata”.
Interesting how individuals can
have such different perceptions.

Do you mountain bike? Have you been out by Buffalo Creek yet? There’s a burn area on some of the trails there from the 90s that’s eerily beautiful (in its own way).
Is the snow sticking up there yet?

My friend is always looking for new mtn bike routes. I’ll check out Buffalo Creek. We’ve been biking a lot west of Fort Collins since it’s so close. i.e. where the fire is. This is Old Flowers Road near Pingree Park Rd looking west towards RMNP. This is under mandatory evacuation and i t was already burned 10 years ago!
It just started snowing. My Alaskan Malamute wants to stay inside.
I’m guessing we’re not going to have much accumulation, especially on roads,
given how warm the ground is.

Buff Creek is going to be a bit far from you (it’s about an hour SW of Denver down 285) but it’s worth it to camp and go out there for a couple days.
My dog wanted nothing to do with outside this morning either
